The Garden of My Life - Step 2

 Attic Window Corners

Saturday was my favorite day of the week. Since I was already awake before the birds, sometimes before my mother, I would go to the kitchen and start the coffee for her. I would search the pantry cupboard for extra portions of cookies and then sneak off to my room and eat the cookies alone while dabbling on my garden drawings. I still love to sneak off and be alone with a cookie in hand. Cookies are the top of the food group in my world.

Once in a while mother would invite me to go with her to market and leave the boys to fend for themselves with my father. These trips to market were the most memorable times of my young life. We would go to the outdoor stands first searching for the best deals on fruits and vegetables to feed all of us for a week. The vendors were always ready to offer a free tasting in anticipation of a sale. So I could get fresh breakfast and never spend a dime. We would buy five bags full of healthy things. The last stop outside was the potato and onion man as these were the heaviest produce we had to buy. Mother would always order the same ten pounds of reds, ten pounds of whites and three pounds of onions. Maybe this explains why I love food and cooking with fresh garden pickings. Then after hauling these bags to the car we could head inside to the southwest corner of the building to the Johnny hot dog stand and Mother would enjoy a coffee and I would have hot chocolate. We would rest for a moment and enjoy the time to talk about my life and words of encouragement were bestowed upon me in mass quantities. The next stop would be in the northwest corner to the kielbasa stand where she would purchase sausages for Sunday dinner. Mother would only visit certain stands for her meats and Mr. Weber would always share a sample of his fresh lunchmeat with me. Then off to the cheese and egg stand. In the southeast corner were the candy and bakery stands. We would always get red licorice strings and two loaves of Vienna sliced, please. Then truck to the north east corner passing the large meat scale where I could hop on to see how much I weighed. We would exit the market through the fish stand which was a very fragrant room indeed. We would see all kinds of ocean life that people actually eat. I have since learned to enjoy such delicacies as squid, octopus and lobster that I thought were just dreadful to look at while I was a kid.

The hint in this part of the story is the location of the various market stands. The inside corner blocks need to be assembled and will be positioned soon.
